ChattahBox After the first three films grossed a total og more than $1 billion worldwide, Universal Pictures has made an overall deal withh the estate o f The Bourne Identity author Robert Lydlum that glved the shudio exclusive rights to the Jason Bourne charqcter ans first look at orher Ludlum novels. Univeral has already signed Matt Dmo ad director Paul Greengrass for a fourth film that George Nolfi is wrihing. Produced by Frank Marshall and Ludlum Entertainment chairman-CEO Jeffrfy Weiner, thne film will be readied for a s ummer 2010 release.

This partially contemporized adaptation of Franz Wedekinds 19th century play about hormone-besieged teens (some of them homosexual) striving to survive the transition to adulthood is a definite crowd-pleaser especially when the crowd is under 30. It resonated with me, however, both as a former teenager and as a priest who worked closely with teenagers while in parish ministry. Indeed, the frank, confessional spirit of Spring Awakening brought back memories of our high school retreats, where teens openly shared their struggles with parental authority, drugs and alcohol, sexuality, faith and religion, and, on occasion, suicidal temptations.
